Baby quilt for a new great niece -Lucille. Patten by Elizabeth Hartman. Machine pieced and quilted by myself. 2017 June

Made this baby quilt for my girlfriend, Barb's first grandchild -a little girl named Lisla. May 2017. It was a panel.

BOM from The Cloth Shop 2017

This kit was a birthday gift from my husband in Jan, 2016. Finished it by the fall and had Barb Bettles quilt it for me. Not my usual colour choices, but I liked the Japanese 'feel' of it.

Children's Hospital -quilt for their new Oncology ward Sept. 2017

Our Vancouver Children's Hospital opened a new Oncology ward and asked our Langley Quilters' Guild to supply them with 35 quilts. Their theme was for these colours and a 'moose'. My version.

Christmas tree skirt

Made this Christmas tree skirt as a gift for my daughter, Robyn & her fiance' Mike. 2017.

Microwave bowls.

Made some microwave bowls as gifts for Christmas 2017. These are great to use when heating up food in the microwave as it prevents the bowl from burning your hands.

These were Christmas gifts made for my daughter, Robyn, and my son, Wade. Dec. 2015.
The top one is a panel that I heavily quilted and then added the battery powered lights from the back. I sewed  a small pocket on the back for the battery pack to sit in.
The bottom one was initially supposed to be finished at 48" square, but I wanted it smaller so I made it 1/2 size. That made for some pretty small 1/2 " pieces but it worked out ok. I learned a lot from my mistakes making this one. This quilt hangs in my son's home office and is appropriate as his videography business is called "Vincent and Theo", named after Vincent Van Goh and his brother, Theo.

The top quilt was a BOM (Block of the Month) done at our Langley Quilters' Guild. It was supposed to be Modern patterns, but think mine is not quite there. At least I tried. I did like the colours of this one and took them from the outside border fabric. I quilted this one myself.
The bottom quilt is a king sized bed runner that I made for our bed. This pattern was offered as a 'Mystery Quilt' through our monthly guild newsletter and I used the colours in our bedroom. Our main quilt is white, so this makes a nice contrast across the bottom of our bed. It was quilted by Debra Sanderson and she did an excellent job on it.

These 2 quilts were originally pieced in the 1980's. The Lone Star one was actually my first quilt class called "Quilt in a Day" -not the appropriate name for any quilt class. You can tell by the colours what era it was made in -rose and green, popular colours in the 80's. I recently had this quilted by Barbara Bettles and she has made it come to life with her lovely quilting. Not sure what I'll do with this one, but at least it's now finished.
The second one is a Double Irish Chain pattern and again was made many years ago. This one was originally made for my daughter when she was about 9 years old, but by the time I finished piecing the top she didn't want these colours and instead wanted her bedroom painted navy blue, so this top sat in a drawer for many years. Barbara Bettles quilted this one for me also and did an awesome job. I found the pink border fabric in my stash-glad I had that colour as otherwise it would have been hard to match.

Here is my friend, Kathie and myself with Kaffe during our one day workshop. Lots of fun!

Wednesday, 17 December 2014

I was lucky enough to take a quilt course on Vachon Island, WA with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably in October. The quilt store (Island Quilters) that sponsored it was absolutely amazing and their stock of Kaffe fabrics was outstanding. It was great fun and the first class I've ever taken with a name quilter. Haven't finished the quilt yet, but it's 'on my list'.The photo is a bit dark, but when I finish the quilt I'll take a better one.

Christmas BOM in progress:2014

I signed up for a BOM (block of the month) online to make a lovely wool Christmas quilt. I can do that, no problem, I thought. NOT! This is basically as far as I've got but hopefully after Christmas I can get back to it. Turns out completing one each month is a little more time consuming than I thought and I'm finding less time to sew/quilt most weeks. It'll get done, just not sure when. It is going to be very cute though.

Mom's wheelchair quilt 2014

Made this quilt using some leftover fabric from a baby quilt plus a few more. Mom was now in a wheelchair and I wanted something 'pretty' to cover her legs. She really liked it, which was nice.

Lilli's Baby Quilt -Feb. 2014

Made this quilt for a new great-niece born in Feb. 2014. Saw a similar one on Pinterest, so took the idea and expanded on it. First I hand appliqued the stems and flowers on but then decided it needed to be sturdier for a baby, so I went over it with machine stitching. After that I ended up adding more hand stitching around the flowers -don't ask my why! Machine pieced and quilted.

Williams cuddle quilt and his Giraffe Wallhanging

These quilts were made for a new great nephew named William, who was born in Calgary. The top one is made of minky fabric that I found online as his 'theme' was giraffes. I made it a good size, approximately 50 x 60" , so he can use it on the floor as a blanket. His Mom loved the softness of it. I quilted the 2 layers together.
The giraffe wall hanging is a Toni Whitley pattern that I enlarged as I wanted it bigger and then I added the borders to frame it (plus the jungle animals too). Some of the leaves are 3-D. It was very time consuming to make, but totally worth it.
